Gators to be without linebacker Ventrell Miller vs. USF

Florida linebacker Ventrell Miller will not be available for the No. 18 Gators’ matchup with visiting USF Saturday. Coach Billy Napier ruled Miller out for the game following Wednesday’s practice.

Miller went down with a lower-body injury during the second half of Florida’s 26-16 loss to Kentucky.

The fifth-year senior has been one of the standout leaders for the Gators, earning the role of team captain before the start of the season.

He’s second on the team in tackles (15), including 1.5 tackles for loss with 2 quarterback hurries.

Redshirt freshman Scooby Williams and freshman Shemar James could see time in Miller’s spot, with veteran Amari Burney anchoring the group.

“The big challenge here is the ability to process quickly and communicate,” said Napier. “When I think about replacing Ventrell, I immediately think about replacing the communicator.
